first blackberry post in a while

August 27th, 2007 No comments

I’m using a blackberry again – it’s a 8700v, but (un)surprisingly little has changed since the last modell i used (almost 3 years ago).

i still don’t like the fonts this thing uses – even if you turn on it’s “ClearType”-equivalent option to smoothen the characters, it still looks ugly IMHO. i wonder how former colleagues could use it with a 6pt (!) font size…

i found an almost flame-war of (probably seasoned) blackberry users against the iPhone hype and how inferior this thing is. ah, i read that t-mobile has made it to offer the iPhone exclusively in Germany (and probably Austria, though this is not confirmed yet). even more annoying that it will not have an UMTS option, so one better waits for the next hardware generation (a wise decision for any type of electronic hardware, as many disgruntled Xbox360 owners can assure you)…

Headline mashup

Voila, here we go- neulich, auf orf.at:

iGoogle and OSX Dashboard Widgets

August 21st, 2007 No comments

I never really got into using OSX Dashboard Widgets, whether it’s the iTunes mini-window, any kind of searches (Wikipedia, Google, Amazon), the Address Book, Wheather info – I rather check the web to get the info I want.

Only recently I started using iGoogle (and pretty much at the same time Google Reader). I always wanted to like and use portal sites since pre-Google Yahoo-times back in the late 90s, but again – somehow, it never became a habbit to check them and configure everything to my liking.

We’ll see how it goes, but having all relevant mini-info available on one place and even access it from my mobile phone is becoming daily routine now.

Objection!!!

I’ve been playing “Phoenix Wright – Ace Attorney” on my DS throughout my 3 week vacation – and to my surprise, I finished it. It’s been ages that I had the time and will to finish a game.

packshot

It’s funny because this game in particular is so untypical for this platform. Basically, it’s an interactive novel about a defense attorney learning the ropes through 5 different cases (stories). You have to interview people, collect evidence, find contradictions, and then cross examine witnesses statements, present the right evidence to reveal contradictions…

All in all pretty linear, but very well written (and funny) – although it’s more or less ignoring the DS’ technical capabilities, mainly because the first 4 of the 5 episodes are ports from the GBA version; only the 5th case introduces some pretty nice touchscreen-features.

I don’t know whether I want to play through the next game in the series (also because it seems to be a 100% GBA port, and people were complaining that the features that were introduced in the 5th DS-only case of the first game are completely missing again) – but there’s a third one already in the making and should be released later this year.
