Throwing virtual chickens…

September 26th, 2007 No comments

After signing up months ago and ignoring it until now, I began to use Facebook today – you know, adding friends, writing on their walls, looking at photos, … oh, and throwing virtual chickens at them.

I never “got” MySpace – to me it seemed inhabited only by 10 year olds, with tiled background images in colors that make it impossible to read anything on the page (although one could argue that it’s still better that way, than to actually read whats posted there…). I will see if Facebook is any different, and provides something meaningful to the more “serious” LinkedIn or Xing business platforms.

Stay Hungry. Stay Foolish.

There is some kind of “aura” about Steve Jobs that I cannot quite define… (and note that I don’t call myself an Apple fanboy).

I just read this Commencement Address – I don’t know whether he has somebody writing his rather personal speeches; I doubt he does.

Your time is limited, so don’t waste it living someone else’s life. Don’t be trapped by dogma — which is living with the results of other people’s thinking. Don’t let the noise of others’ opinions drown out your own inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary.

Reading about such personal things as him being adopted, being diagnosed with an uncurable form of cancer – such honesty from the CEO of a multi billion dollar company talking to a couple of students… It may be an American thing, but still I’m impressed.

The Root Of All Evil?

While browsing the web for info on British ethologist Richard Dawkins, I found a Channel 4 documentary created by him – will have to watch it later to see if it makes sense to read his book “The God Delusion”.

Note – after “finding” Derren Brown’s shows on Channel 4, that’s the 2nd time that I stumble across this channel.

Update: Apparently, Dawkins is more mainstream than I thought, after reading about his works in a book more than half a year ago.
